I’m excited to announce that I’m only $800 away from my first fundraising goal of $4,200 before I leave for YWAM! You guys have blessed me so much over the past month! Just a month ago, I had a little over $1,000, and my inbox has just exploded with donations and people willing to help me raise funds! It takes a lot of faith to know that the funds will come in. Sometimes it seems pretty hopeless when a week goes by and there’s no email notification, I think to myself “will I even be able to afford this? Is this what I’m supposed to be doing?” and it crushes my motivation. But I’m coming to realize that the goal isn’t to get all the money within my set time period. I have to trust God that He’ll help me bring in the necessary funds, and He’s guiding me and encouraging me to work as hard as I can and put the effort forth and He’ll do the rest.
A misconception that I think a lot of Christians believe is that all we have to do is pray to God and He’ll answer our prayers, and while that’s a part of it, and He wants us to pray, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to “Pray continually” and many other verses lead us to prayer, but the part that a lot of us are missing is the fact that God doesn’t want us to just sit here and do nothing other than pray. Right now I’m praying for funds to come in. If all I do is pray, but I never sent out letters, built this website, or connect with people, I think it would be a lot more difficult for God to multiply my actions for His will. Is it possible that God can bring everything in for me, yes. I have faith that could happen. And my work and effort in fundraising now is not a result of doubt, it’s with the intention that He wants me to challenge myself and grow in faith and relationship through the process. I wouldn’t grow if I did nothing. And I think that’s a rut I think a lot of Christians get stuck in.
If you’re praying for a job, also pray for the wisdom to apply to the right jobs, or pray for your future employers. If you’re praying for healing for something small or something large, don’t just pray for a miracle, pray for the doctors healing you, or pray for the medications to do what they need to do. I think we get stuck in praying for things so directly and our prayers are so broad, we forget the underlying factors of the situations we’re in. I’m trying to challenge myself to pray for more than just the big picture, and I encourage you to do the same.
If you’d like to keep me in your prayers this week and over the next month, please pray for these things; That I reach my first goal, that the money received is multiplied not just for me, but for my teammates as well, pray for the people who have donated that they are financially blessed as a result of supporting missions, pray for my art show, that it brings in the right audience, and last, pray for the people my team is going to encounter on the mission field.
I want to thank you all so much for your support, you’re a huge blessing in my life right now! If you’re in the Denver area and would like to further support me, I will be having an art show Friday, March 20th, at JFC; Highlands Ranch campus from 5-8! I’ll have prints for sale of the work I’ve done, as well as baked goods, some handmade painted signs, and some knitted goods! If you can’t make it, but would like to order prints, I will be setting up an etsy shop and have those available for order!
